Fish
Panama - Where the Fishing is Easy!
Jump to Fishing Photos
Fishing in this area of Panama is unique; you have
a variety of species at your doorstep. The main event is, of course,
black and blue marlin. It is not unusual to have seven shots a day
at marlin; one could experience more if you can keep the sailfish
off your baits. The average marlin we catch is 300 - 400 lbs. We
have caught many fish in the 800 lb. range and one at 1,200 lbs.
The majority of the marlin is blacks and they are here year round.
So stop dreaming about Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and
come down to Panama.
Marlin are not the only species that deserves respect.
On the marlin grounds there sailfish, dorado, wahoo, tuna, cubera
snapper, mullet snapper, grouper, amberjack, African pompano, rainbow
runner, and the list continues. It’s not unusual to catch
tuna over 200 lbs, amberjacks over 100 lbs., dorado over 60 lbs.,
and big sails average 100 lbs.. So if the marlin bite is slow, you
are not limited to one type of fishing. You can always have a bend
in the rod.
Inshore fishing is not what one might think. The inshore
waters merge with the offshore waters and you find wahoo, dorado,
and sails mixed in with the roosterfish, jacks, snappers, and snook.
One can regularly catch dorado and wahoo 30 feet offshore. You can
snorkel with the dorado while looking for lobster to go with your
snapper dinner. The world record snook also comes from this area.
So, if you are tired of the beatings you take getting
to the ledge for a few dolphin on the east coast, or running forever
to the towers in the gulf, come to Panama where the fishing is easy.
